Troubleshooting with the official tool: HP Print and Scan Doctor

If you’ve ruled out the most common sources of error and you’re using Windows 10 and changing the status of your printer didn’t help either, try HP’s troubleshooting options for printing problems.

The manufacturer has developed a unique tool for this: the HP Print and Scan Doctor.

To troubleshoot, do the following:

  • Download and install the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the Hewlett Packard official website.
  • Make sure your printer is turned on before starting the tool.
  • Start the tool.
  • Click on Start.
  • Two types of messages can now be displayed:
  • the message to activate printer updates
  • The message, your HP printer as the default printer set
  • Confirm the respective message with Yes (regardless of which of these two possible messages it is).
  • Your HP printer should now be back online and working correctly.

If contrary to expectations, your HP printer is still offline. There are three other possible solutions:

Take a look at the manual that came with your HP printer (printed in the box or digital). Here you will usually find further suggested solutions specifically for your model.

Uninstall and reinstall your printer. This is cumbersome and laborious, but reinstalling the printer can solve the problem.
